Plants in the medieval period: importance, survival and myth

Plants in the medieval period: importance, survival and myth

The medieval period followed the collapse of the Roman civilisation across Europe. These 'Dark Ages' are of interest because traces of their presence are still to be found within the landscape, if we know how and where to look. This talk will help to imagine what it would have been like to live in this period, as someone who is a wealthy landowner, but also as a commoner. How plants would have been vital to their survival, as well as the myth and importance they would evoked for people at this time.
Abbey Cwmhir Heritage Trust talk by John Handley, an ecologist specialising in meadow and woodland flora. Time: 19:15 GMT
