Water Features in Parks and Gardens and the Impact of Climate Change
Jo Barnes, NT Conservation Manager, will explore the role water features play in parks and gardens in the South East, how climate change is likely to impact them and what the scope is for adaptation. Water features and ornamental lakes are wonderfully interactive, sensory and dramatic attributes of parks and gardens which can also support high levels of biodiversity. However, they are often supplied through a complex arrangement of natural and manmade systems which are extremely vulnerable to climate change and therefore, without adaptation, could be liable to deterioration and possibly loss within the next decade. Jo will explore these challenges at some of the Trust’s iconic parks and gardens and explain how they are starting to adapt their approaches in land management and using the past for inspiration, to secure these significant assets for the future.
