Summer has finally arrived in the UK, but the world still seems topsy turvy. So to settle us and calm our nerves here’s what we’ve curated for you for this week – It’s nature writer, Richard Mabeys’ 80th birthday! Let's celebrate with @bbcsounds and him reading from ‘Nature Cure’! If you want to see who the Landscape Designers of the future are, then head on over to @UniofGreenwich for the end of year show. Always good to know what everyone else is up to! Then if you care about biodiversity and want to do something tangible, how about being part of the Big Butterfly Count for @savebutterflies. Hosted by @kingstonuniversity in this instance, but it is a UK wide initiative, so you can find your local count. I miss exhibitions and this one looks incredible. If you feel the same as me then book to see this magical paper exhibition of experimental cartographies at @omvedgardens - mapping places known, unknown, forgotten and fictional. Exhibiting artists include: @francesca__benedetto, @nat_chard and many more. Forage in harmony with the ecosystem with @eatweedsuk a plant-based forager, ethnobotanical researcher and wild food educator. Hosted by @masterherbalists; Join @georgemonbiot, @franny_armstrong and Peter Armstrong talking about their innovative, "live documentary"- Rivercide- on their quest to restore our rivers to their rightful place; The debate around native or exotic urban planting can sometimes be a thorny one. Perhaps there is a compromise. Join @jonhazelwood0, @jameshitchmough and internationally acclaimed garden designer @pietoudolf to propose a different, less binary way of thinking about natives and non-natives; Art, music, and ephemerality in the Designed Landscape with Gary Smith and Landscape designer and music composer Larry Weaner. This will be electric! If you are in the vicinity, then join @thebatterynyc for a medicinal plant ID walk in NY. I wish I could attend! And if you are in the UK there are so many national collections to see with @plantheritage and our pick for this week is useful and beautiful stalwarts, PENSTEMONS! In Northamptonshire and to finish off your week the @nationalgardenscheme have an open day at Broughton Grange, with the terraced walled garden created by @tomstuartsmith in 2001. Look at gardens, learn about plants and drown out the craziness of the current world we live in.
