The Sustainable Designer - Carbon and materials

The Sustainable Designer - Carbon and materials

Our understanding of sustainable design techniques is rapidly changing and growing and so this LCGD course aims to give you knowledge of a range of options when designing landscapes and gardens rather than single solutions. They will also look to the future and help you navigate this complex subject as changes occur. Carbon impact is a highly complex and political issue and this course aims to introduce you to the concepts and explore ideas and knowledge around the carbon impact of our design work. An essential look for designers who are interested in the sustainability of their designs.
The course will introduce carbon counting and landscape what does landscape mean here? What is carbon, embodied carbon, sequestered carbon, how do we choose materials and how might we consider them in relation to their carbon footprint? How can we begin to think about taking our projects to “Net Zero”? The course is led by Dr Mima Taylor, an experienced, Kew Gardens-trained, Horticulturist, Botanist, Ecologist and Landscape Consultant.
