Linnean Lens: Ortus Sanitatis
Join the Linnean Society to (gently) flip the pages of this 530-year-old book, and explore how the natural world was seen at the time.
The Linnean Society holds four different editions of the Ortus Sanitatis, or Garden of Health, a book which described species in the natural world along with their medicinal uses and modes of preparation. Head of Collections Isabelle Charmantier will show the earliest 1491 edition, looking at its complex provenance, and highlighting its wonderful woodcuts of fantastic animals, plants and minerals.
