Why Women Grow - Alice Vincent

Why Women Grow - Alice Vincent

Cultivating Place caught up with Alice Vincent to talk in depth about her newest work (book and podcast): Why Women Grow, Stories of Soil, Sisterhood, and Survival. It is a moving verdant tapestry of Alice’s own story as a woman going to ground to grow herself, intertwined with that of women gardening across Great Britain and beyond and what that has meant to their own lives and to our collective understanding of both gardens and women.
Alice spent 15 months interviewing all kinds of women from around Great Britain and beyond beginning in October of 2021. Throughout the book, the gardening stories of these women demonstrates the immense capacity of our gardens to hold not only our joys, but our most searing grief. For Alice, her garden now holds the story of her next known title: mother.
