Lynne Boddy - Getting to the Heart of the Matter: Decay in standing trees
In this talk at KMIS, Professor Lynne Boddy will discuss her work on the fascinating communities of fungi and other organisms that rot the centres of old trees. She will challenge our preconceptions of decay as a negative process and reveal how rotting releases nutrients locked up in dead tissues to be reused once again and how decaying wood provides habitat for thousands of species of invertebrates, birds and other mammals.
