Rewilding for Biodiversity
How can we most effectively combat our declining biodiversity? Rewilding is providing impressive biodiversity gains, and a great example of it is on display at The Belmont Estate in North Somerset.
The Belmont Estate is a Georgian country estate less than eight miles from central Bristol. Deeply rooted in the history and heritage of the area, its grounds reflect the early days of English Landscape Gardening with its expansive parkland, mature woodlands and riverside meadows.
Recognising the need for ecological restoration the estate's staff are rewilding and rewetting previously intensively farmed land, bringing back natural abundance and diversity to a long since broken landscape. Their vision is to reconnect people with nature in a responsible and sustainable manner, from providing nature based education, to woodland foraging experiences and "wild dining".
