Stephen Wass discusses a two-year programme of research, survey and excavation at this National Trust property in Warwickshire, which revealed the complex nature of the interaction between geography, history and design as a productive medieval landscape was transformed into a garden and park that featured large scale water works, engineered for pleasure.
