"Essex Traces” - A talk by Alison Moller
Alison Moller is both a garden history expert (having given our popular garden history courses) and a lecturer for the Wines and Spirits association, so understands well the link between ‘terroir’ and what will grow in our gardens and landscapes.
This illustrated talk will explain how the landscape of Essex was formed. starting with the oldest surface rocks formed around 80 million years ago. Alison will explore how the chalk was formed and how it came to be covered by London Clay, and then progress though time, including the Ice Ages and on to today. The story of the changing rivers of Essex is highlighted as well as the first settlements by humans, with examples of how the land was used and suggestions for places to visit.
