Can you name a notable woman botanist? You will after this lecture!

Can you name a notable woman botanist? You will after this lecture!

Over the past 10 years Heather has worked with her fellow researchers to mine the rich databases of plant and fungal names to uncover the stories of women botanists. She will explore some of the questions we sought to answer, such as who was the first woman to publish a name after Linnaeus? Who is the most prolific female publisher of names right now? and Which women (real or mythical) have been honoured in generic plant names and why?
Since coming to the UK in 2010, Heather has worked at the Natural History Museum, London and RGB Kew on a variety of projects, including nearly 8 years as an editor of the International Plant Names Index. Most of her roles involved digitising information and knowledge about plants and gave her access to a huge body of information that could be repurposed to answer other research questions. Heather's work at these two institutions also introduced her to some wonderful colleagues who she still collaborates with as an Honourary Research Associate at Kew.
Heather is currently working full time in the Digital Archiving department at The National Archives of the UK at Kew. In person at Kew and online.
