Insect welfare: Solid foundations for an emerging field

Insect welfare: Solid foundations for an emerging field

Insects are a highly diverse group of invertebrate animals used/managed in a variety of contexts, including farmed (e.g., as food and feed), research, and wild settings. But, do insects deserve some moral consideration? If so, how might we research and improve their welfare where they are used? This talk covers the relevant evidence for sentience in insects, tools for promoting their welfare, and research on welfare in farmed conditions, as well as the role of the Insect Welfare Research Society in the emerging field of insect sentience and welfare studies.
