A journey to understand and conserve tulips in the wilds of Central Asia
Brett Wilson works for the United Nations Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre where he helps manage the global databases of protected and conserved areas. He also remains a leading figure in global wild tulip research and conservation helping to coordinate action, publish research, and develop a network of tulip experts.
In his KMis lecture, Brett will present his research on wild tulip taxonomy and conservation taking the audience from botanic gardens and dusty herbariums to the mysterious mountains of Central Asia in search of the wild ancestors of this iconic spring flower. He will detail his adventures into taxonomy, tulip evolution, and red listing and the many amazing people he has worked with along the way that made this work possible. He will finally present his view of what this all means for the future of wild tulips in their native homeland. In person and online.
